Knight-Complex

The Ernest L. Knight Living and Learning Complex was constructed in 2006. It is named after one of Alabama A&M University's most generous donors, Dr. Ernest L. Knight. A native of Evergreen, Alabama, Dr. Knight graduated from A&M in 1953, with a B.S. in Agriculture before moving on to pursue his doctorate degree. Dr. Knight never forgot his roots, and has given back to his alma mater admirably.
Knight Complex is a 5 story suite style facility with 95 suites on the East Wing and 88 suites on the West Wing. It houses upper-class males and females in spacious 2 bedroom/2bathroom suites with a common area shared by the four occupants. One microwave and one refrigerator are provided for each suite. There are study lounges on each floor for each wing, laundry facilities for each wing, cable, wireless internet, and telephone services. Amenities in the complex include a cafeteria, computer lab, Subway, hair salon/barber shop, and Student Store.

A $350 housing fee is required before your application is approved. The fees include $100 nonrefundable application fee, and $250 refundable deposit.

Brendlyn Hall states “It is with great pleasure, since 1991 that I have had the pleasure of servicing our most valued customers.” Presently she is the Residence Hall Director of Ernest Knight Complex only after becoming a graduate of this illustrious university with a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness. Ms. Hall serves as co-advisor to the Inter -Resident Hall Council, a member of the Homecoming Committee, and Bulldog Pride Committee.

Mr. Henry Davis is the Residence Hall Director. Mr. Henry Davis is a native Alabamian born in Somerville, Morgan County. He earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in teacher education and a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from AAMU. Mr. Davis is a "Bulldog" and a football letterman., playing under the leadership of Coach Lewis Crews, 1960 - 1962. He is also a Vietnam War veteran and spent significant time working for the US Government and traveling in Europe after the Army. Mr. Davis is fluent in German as a second language. He returned to Alabama in 1999 and began his career as a residential life director at Foster Complex in August 2000. He has served as director of Hopkins Hall and Morris Hall. Mr. Davis is involved in local church and community activities. Student Affairs, mainly Residential Life is his latest career field. The residents and staff of Hopkins hall and the students of Alabama A&M University are "his ministry."

In 1983, Mr. Randy Rhynes moved to Huntsville from Dothan, AL. to attend Alabama A&M University. He began working in the residence halls as a work-study student before graduating in 1988 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance from the school of business. In August of 1988, Mr. Rhynes was hired as the assistant residence hall director for Stephens hall; under the leadership of Mr. Frank Hester. He was given his first directorship over Hopkins Hall in the fall of 1995. Determined to further his education, Mr. Rhynes entered the graduate school program at Alabama A&M University in 1993 and stayed the course until the summer of 1999, when he was awarded a M. S. degree in Agribusiness Management. Since that time, Mr. Rhynes has had the honor of serving as Residence Hall Director of Morris and Grayson Halls, as well as Foster Complex West.

Mr. Malcom D. Williams is a native of Birmingham, AL. He is a Residence Hall Director. He has been with the Residence Life staff for a period of time. Mr. Williams is a graduate of Alabama A&M University with a B.S. in Social Work. He is a member of AEA (Alabama Education Association) and the Alabama A&M University Staff Senate. Mr. Williams works in association with the Athletic Department, ORAS (Office of Retention and Academic Support), and the BAIRH program at Alabama A&M University to ensure the mission and vision of the student and student-athlete at Knight Complex are met. Mr. Williams has the benefit of working and developing the minds of young men to enhance themselves to be future leaders for tomorrow’s world.

Ms. S. J. Anderson currently holds the position of Residence Hall Director. She is a proud graduate holding a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education. Ms. Anderson has been an active participant in several organizations since 1986; such as Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. , NASAP (National Association of Student Affairs Professionals), SEAHO (Southeastern Association of Housing Officers), AAIE (Association for the Advancement of International Educators), Kappa Delta Pi Honors Association, Martin Luther King Service Organization, Baptist Campus Ministries and Re-Birth Ministries. Three years ago, Ms. Anderson formed an ongoing green initiative called POWER UP GREEN: P.U.G. She also joined the Bulldog Pride Committee, established by Alabama A&M First Lady, Mrs. A. Hugine.

Brenda J. Mallard, a native of Huntsville, Alabama, an alum of Alabama A & M University, graduated in 1984 with a BA in Political Science. In August 2004, she became an employee of Residential Life at A & M and is currently a director of Knight Complex. Ms. Mallard is also a recent graduate of the Psychology Department, obtaining her Master's Degree in May 2011.

Jacqueline Flowers is a proud graduate of Alabama A&M University, with a degree in Biology. She has been employed at A&M since 1988. Ms. Flowers is a member of Madison Mission SDA Church where she is very active. Ms. Flowers is a member of SEAHO (Southeastern Association of Housing Officers. During her tenure in Residential Life, Ms. Flowers has worked in many of the halls and has advised several organizations, such as Inter-Residence Hall Council, Rebirth Christian Ministries, Voluptuous Bulldog Beauties, Women’s Week, Residence Hall Week and much more. Ms. Flowers is very involved in campus committees, such as Bulldog Pride, Toastmasters, Homecoming, Founders Day Committee, Maroon and White Pageant and much more.

Mr. Jarvis Lane, a native of Decatur, AL., serves as a Residence Hall Director and Programs Coordinator. He comes to Alabama A&M from UAB, with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and Spanish. While at UAB, Mr. Lane served as a Resident Assistant for four years and work with the Office of New Student Orientation for two years as an Orientation Leader. During his tenure, Mr. Lane as Programmer of the Year for 3 years, Member & Associate Director of the National Residence Hall Honorary (Upsilon Alpha Beta Chapter) and Residence Hall Association Executive Council Member. Mr. Lane also sang with the UAB Gospel Choir and participated in the F.O.C.U.S. (freshman first-year experience steering committee). Mr. Lane brings a passion for Residential Life and experience with the Freshmen First Year Experience and Living-Learning Community component of Residence Life. Mr. Lane is excited about joining the BULLDOG NATION!

Foster-Complex
The Mamie Labon Foster Living/Learning Complex was constructed in 1993. The five story air-conditioned residence hall houses 500 first year male and female students. Each apartment suite has two bedrooms and living space for four male students, who share a common living room and kitchen area. The facility also houses the east campus cafeteria. The Foster Complex has elevators, study lounges, laundry facilities, a computer lab, and wireless internet.
Ms. Mamie Labon Foster was one of the foster female president Pro Tempore of the Alabama A&M University Board of Trustees. Born June 12, 1912, she graduated from Rosedale Elementary School. She completed studies at Alabama A&M Institute High School and received the junior college diploma & B.S.(1946) in elementary education from what was Alabama A&M College. She also received two Masters of Arts Degrees from Teacher College Columbia University in New York City.

Harriett J. Terry Hall
An All-Female Residence
Harriett J. Terry Hall bears the name of one of our early pioneers. Ms. Terry was born in New York in 1885. She entered college in 1906 and before graduating in 1910, she helped founded Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Ms. Terry came to A&M in 1922, where she worked as a professor and dorm counselor.
Terry Hall is a traditional four story female residence hall with 75 rooms. It houses freshmen in double occupancy rooms. It is equipped with a large student lounge, laundry facilities, mini-computer lab, community bathrooms with individual shower stalls, cable, community kitchen, wireless internet, and telephone services. Residents are allowed to bring a 1.7 cubic ft. any above 1.7 cubic are not allowed.

Palmer-Hall
Solomon Palmer Hall III
An All-Female Residence
Palmer Hall III is a traditional four story, air-conditioned residence hall for women. The residence hall has 89 rooms, which houses freshmen females in single and double occupancy rooms. Palmer Hall is equipped with a student lounge, meditation room, laundry facilities, community bathrooms with individual shower stalls, cable television, and telephone services. Keeping with the traditional residence hall arrangement, all rooms are accessible off a main enclosed corridor.
Palmer Hall is named after Solomon Palmer, Jr., who was born in 1839. Mr. Palmer served in many capacities during his lifetime; a military officer, lawyer, superintendent, teacher, and a Blount County Rep. from 1865-67. Palmer Hall bears the III because Palmer Hall has been erected on three occasions.

Thomas V. Morris Hall
An All-Male Residence
Mr. Thomas V. Morris who was born in Eufuala, Alabama, came to Alabama A&M College as a freshman in September 1942. His early schooling was from the Barbour County Training School. Pursuing a curriculum in agriculture, he graduated in 1946 with honors and went on to receive the masters Degree in Horticulture at Michigan State University.
Morris Hall is an all-male residential hall for first time students. The building is four stories and houses 168 men in air-conditioned, double-occupancy rooms. The building offers a television and study lounge, computer lab, laundry room, administrative offices, community bathroom with individual shower stalls, and internet access.

An All-Male Residence
The Clarence F. Stephens Hall opened in 1981. The four story air-conditioned residence hall houses 168 students in double occupancy and private rooms for first year students. The facility offers a TV viewing lounge, a study lounge, laundry facilities, a computer lab, wireless internet, offices and counselor’s quarters.
Clarence F. Stephens was a native of Newell, AL. He, along with two brothers and two sisters, received B.S. Degrees from Alabama A&M University. Stephens was a very bright student who majored in mathematics and minored in chemistry. He also was enrolled in advanced studies at AAMU; where he graduated in 1970.
Students residing in Stephens Hall are able to bring a 1.7 Cubic Ft. Compact Fridge any above 1.7 Cubic are not allowed.
